Our generation has been blessed with the concept of web series. With various platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, TVF, Disney+ Hotstar, Voot, AltBalaji, HBO Max, Apple TV+, Hulu, Youtube Premium, Sony MXPlayer, even Zomato Originals, we are totally spoilt for choice. Almost all media companies are trying their hand at online streaming services by pushing out good quality content.
Credit goes to the concept of web series where there is a lot of scope for the director and writer as they are not bound by the typical 150 min time limit present in traditional movies. By having multiple episodes and seasons, there is scope for endless twists, turns and a heck of a lot of suspense.
Also there is lot of room for experimentation. For example, take Black Mirror Bandersnatch. It is an episode which is an interactive show. The viewer decides how the story progresses, and accordingly there are multiple endings. This is a very interesting concept and we can't wait for more interactive content.
Considering the current times, these online content providers are providing us entertainment at home, which is clearly a blessing in disguise. This type of content is also getting due recognition at various award shows like the Academy awards, Golden Globes etc.
But there is a downside to this. Imagine watching a Game of Thrones action scene on the big screen in a movie theater. That experience cannot be delivered through these online services. A con we have to tolerate.
Overall, it is safe to assume that web series is the way to go!
