Should 2-in-1 laptops exist?

2-in-1 laptops sound awesome on paper. You get a nice thin and light laptop with powerful specifications, also you get a touch screen as an additional input method. These laptops try to combine the functionality of a tablet and a laptop into a single device.

What do we use a tablet for? Mainly for media consumption while relaxing on the couch. A laptop? For productive work. Can you imagine a single device that covers both these scenarios?

When using a laptop, there is hardly the need for a touchscreen. Whereas folding the laptop on its back to use the touchscreen as a tablet doesn't seem to be a viable solution. The device will be heavier and bulkier than a traditional tablet, and the battery life is also a huge concern.

Sure, these laptops can be used by niche consumers who are into artistic activities, but i feel they'll prefer against buying such expensive laptops and would find affordable and better alternatives.

2-in-1 laptops are an example of companies trying to sell us something we don't need and make extra money off us.
